Remembering 2017 Disasters in India
1. Tripura earthquake (3rd January)
A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck India 20 km (12 mi) east north-east of Ambassa in the state of Tripura on January 3, 2017 with a maximum observed intensity of 6-7 EMS. It struck at 2:39 pm local time
North India Cold Wave was devastated by a cold wave during the month of January 2017. This occurrence had a severe effect on several North Indian states,[2] including Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Harayana, Rajasthan,[3] and Uttar Pradesh. The lowest temperature in Gulmarg due to the cold wave was recorded at −12.4 °C (9.7 °F). The banks of Dal Lake in Srinagar froze.
3. Patna boat accident ( 14 January)
On 14 January 2017, a boat carrying more than 40 passengers capsized in the Ganges in the Indian city of Patna, Bihar, killing 25 people. The boat was about to reach the bank when it capsized. Overloading is suspected to be the cause of the accident.
4. Kuneru train derailment (21 January)
On 21 January 2017, the Hirakhand express 18448, a scheduled passenger train from Jagdalpur to Bhubaneswar, derailed near the village of Kuneru in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, India, killing 41 people and injuring 68 others. The train was carrying 600 passengers.
5. Gurez sector avalanche (25 January )
The Gurez Avalanche Accident was a series of four avalanches that claimed the lives of 24 persons, including 20 soldiers and four civilians in Jammu and Kashmir on the evening of 25 January 2017.
6. Ennore oil spill (28 January)
The 2017 Ennore oil spill was an oil spill that occurred outside the Kamarajar Port in Ernavoor, Tamil Nadu, India, on 28 January 2017. The spill occurred when the outbound empty LPG tanker M.T. BW Maple collided with the inbound fully loaded oil tanker M.T. Dawn Kanchipuram.
7. Gujarat flood (1 June - 31 July 2017)
Following heavy rain in July 2017, Gujarat was affected by severe flooding. The floods were reported to have caused total 224 deaths between 1 June and 31 July 2017.16 people had died in neighbouring Rajasthan state by 31 July.
8. Gorakhpur hospital deaths (As of 2nd September 2017)
A large number of child deaths occurred at the state-run BRD Medical College hospital in Gorakhpur city of Uttar Pradesh, India in 2017. As of 2 September 2017, 1,317 children have died at the hospital in 2017. The 2017 deaths attracted media attention in August, when 3250 children died at the hospital.

9. Khatauli train derailment (19 August)
On 19 August 2017, the Kalinga Utkal Express train derailed near Khatauli in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh, Indiacausing multiple fatalities.[1] 23 people were killed and 156 others were injured.
10. Auraiya train derailment (23 August)
On 23 August 2017, the Kaifiyat Express train derailed between Pata and Achalda railway stations in Auraiya district of Uttar Pradesh, India causing multiple injuries.
11. 2017 Bihar floods
Affected 19 districts of North Bihar causing death of 514 people. 2,371 panchayats (settlement councils) under 187 blocks of 19 districts of Northern Bihar have been affected in the flood. Around 1.71 crore (17.1 million) people are hit by the floods. Over 8.5 lakh people have lost their homes, with Araria district alone accounting for 2.2 lakh homeless people.
12. Mumbai stampede (29 September)
On 29 September 2017, a stampede broke out at the sub-urban Prabhadevi railway station (formerly known as Elphinstone station) in Mumbai, India.At least 23 people were killed and 39 others were injured in the stampede.
