Reliance has started delivering the JioPhone to those who’ve pre-booked the device. The phone, which the company claims to be selling for ‘effectively free’, offers 4G VoLTE on a small-sized display, and runs on Kai OS.
The company has updated its website with terms and conditions for the buyers of JioPhone.
JioPhone users will have to recharge their number every month, as Jio Prime (offering data for 3 months) is not applicable for them. But that’s not all and we’re putting down the important ones for you below.

So, Jio is asking buyers of JioPhone (including first-time buyers) to pay at least Rs 4,500 in 3 years to keep the device up and running. This charge does not include GST.
While this might not bother users who’ve got multiple phones, buyers in rural regions who’re getting first-time access to mobile internet might not find it cost-effective.

But Jio could change the trend by offering as much as 14GB data every month with its Rs 153 plan (only available for JioPhone recharges). If you don’t recharge for up to Rs 1,500 each year, Jio holds the right to repossess the JioPhone from you.
This may anger many people, who’ve pre-booked the phone by paying Rs 500 initially.

Early refund charges have been introduced so that people stick to the JioPhone for a long time, recharge them every month, and stand a chance to redeem the money paid after period of three years.

As you can see here, not only are you going to pay Rs 1,500 to get your hands on the JioPhone, but, in case you plan on returning it before the 3-year window, these charges will be levied by the company.So, even if you decide to return the phone on the last day before your JioPhone refund scheme is applicable, you’d have to pay up.
